my story
You could say it’s in my blood. I come from a line of photographers. My grandma started her own photography business in the mid-west before women and entrepreneurs were commonly in the same sentence. She then passed her business down to my aunt and then my cousin. I remember going to Kansas City as a small child and visiting her studio and standing in front of these massive prints with rich colors, in awe of the beautiful brides and families. That’s the moment I fell in love with photography.
Today I am a PNW girl through and through. I grew up in north Seattle and have always had a million interests, art included. If anyone else grew up recording Bob Ross on PBS, we have something in common.
I like to bring a sense of calm to my shoots. There’s no reason to make photography awkward and the best art and inspiration comes when we’re all hanging out, in our element. I’ve always said, my style is natural and my goal is to have fun. I want you having a genuinely good time. If you have kids, let them run around the park (like they desperately want to). I'll chase them. If we're shooting boudoir we’ll get dolled up, cheers with some champagne and listen to good music. My focus is on capturing your most flattering angles and your individual essence. I want to learn about you, what makes you tick, what makes you laugh and create art around exactly that. Photography can be so much fun and when we have fun, you look good.
Sincerely,
Emily Maryatt
